Concrete weight coating of pipes for Nord Stream 2 continues in Mussalo

01.06.2017

One month ago, Wasco Coatings Finland started concrete weight coating of the pipes for the Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipeline to be installed across the Baltic Sea. At its plant located at the Port of HaminaKotka, Wasco will coat more than 90,000 pipes needed in the project.

Wasco's concrete weight coating and logistics operations related to the Nord Stream 2 project bring additional jobs and business to the area throughout the project. Wasco has already hired over 260 persons for its coating plant.
Moreover, it will employ about 100 people indirectly in plant maintenance, storage and port operations, among others.

The coating of the pipes for the project is estimated to continue until end of 2018. To date, over 45,000 pipes have been delivered from the pipe mills to Wasco's storage area. After concrete weight coating, part of the pipes will be stored in Wasco's storage area in Kotka while some will be transported by sea to intermediate storage. During construction phase, pipes will be transported just-in-time to the pipe-lay vessels.
