Port of HaminaKotka Ltd in Baltic Sea Day

28.05.2020

Baltic Sea Day is an annual special day launched by the John Nurminen Foundation to celebrate the sea. The goal of the day is to inspire people to enjoy our unique home sea and to do concrete things for it. In addition to the celebrations, the idea of the Baltic Sea Day is to increase knowledge about the diverse nature, culture and history of the Baltic Sea.

Baltic Sea Day will be celebrated on 27 August 2020, and it will involve a large host of towns, cities, companies, associations and other parties. The day will be celebrated in many different ways with events and action, taking into account potential coronavirus restrictions. As an example, in Helsinki Baltic Sea Day will be opened at Sanomatalo’s Mediatori Square in a discussion event that is open to everyone. In Vantaa, people will have an opportunity to try and learn different water-related skills at Lake Kuusijärvi in a fun family event, and in Turku schools will serve herring as one food option on Baltic Sea Day.

Port of HaminaKotka Ltd wishes to be involved in paying attention to the natural environment of the Baltic Sea and its diversity, and will challenge its personnel to make food that is sustainable in view of the Baltic Sea. The Baltic Sea menu challenge campaign will run throughout the summer. A photo collage of Baltic Sea delicacies devised by the personnel of Port of HaminaKotka will be published on the websites of both the Port of HaminaKotka and Baltic Sea Day.
