This year, Port of HaminaKotka Ltd will donate the funds reserved for Christmas gifts to the “Save a piece of the Baltic Sea” campaign of the Clean Baltic Sea project run by the John Nurminen Foundation.

The Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom will start its operations on 1 January 2019.

Jari Kontunen, B.Sc. (Constr.), has started as the Technical Director of Port of HaminaKotka Ltd from the beginning of 2019.

The port may grant a permit for the use of a remotely piloted aircraft for photography and video photography in the port area if the following conditions are met:

The Port of HaminaKotka is located at a hub on the Eastern Baltic Sea. It is a key port of the Trans-European Transport Networks (TEN-T) along the Core Network Corridor in Scandinavia and the Baltic Sea. A central location, the current development of the Finnish wood-processing industry and strong growth consolidate the importance of the route running via the Port of HaminaKotka. The Port wishes to provide the best possible service, and it has carried out significant capital investments and intends to continue these in the near future together with its partners. The capital investment needs and the importance of a well-functioning route have also been recognised at the level of the European Union. As a result, the Port of HaminaKotka has already received two financing decisions: for the development of the D-area at the Mussalo Harbour and for the development of passenger traffic at the Kantasatama Harbour.

Improving port access and hinterland connection of the Port of HaminaKotka in the ScanMed Corridor Eastern Baltic Hub -project is co-financed by the EU’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) program. The project improves port access and hinterland connections in the Mussalo Harbour of the Port of HaminaKotka in the Scandinavian-Mediterranean Core Network Corridor of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). HaminaKotka is a TEN-T core maritime port. The aim is to provide an efficient, safe and sustainable maritime entry and exit point by removing the current bottleneck of insufficient port infrastructure in order to accommodate larger vessels and to handle more efficiently increased container and break-bulk cargo flows. The project is a part of a long-term port development plan. The improvements enable better service level and efficient handling of increased transhipments and larger vessels.

The EU co-financed Eastern Baltic Hub project has its kick-off meeting on 13.2.2019 in Kotka. The project improves the safe and sustainable maritime access and hinterland connections in the Mussalo harbor.

The Port of HaminaKotka will be represented in logistics exhibitions in Moscow, Bremen and Munich this spring. We are presenting a port complex, which, alongside fast and competitive routes, also offers a full range of logistics services for the needs of international trade and industry.

Special attention is paid to the parking of office centre Merituuli starting from 18.3.2019.  Please note the use of parking disc and time limits in parking areas.  Securitas Oy is in charge of parking control. 

The application of the EU’s port services regulation, which governs the provision of port services, will begin on 24 March 2019. The regulation applies to certain port services such as bunkering, mooring and towage.

The summer of cruises in 2019 was launched on 6 May by the same vessel as last year, the M/S Saga Sapphire of a British shipping company, bringing almost 600 passengers and a crew of 420 to the Kantasatama Harbour in the centre of Kotka.

There will be an interruption of 72 hours in rail traffic to and from Mussalo during Midsummer due to bridge work at Norssalmi. Moreover, safety devices will be installed at the Mussalo railway yard, with the length of the installation work being 46 hours.

The Finnish icebreakers Fennica and Nordica will move from Rauma to Kotka. Alongside the Katajanokka icebreaker base in Helsinki, Arctia will have a new icebreaker base at a quay of Kotka Marine Oy at Pikku-Hietanen.

The Port of HaminaKotka hosted the official kick-off meeting of the Kotka Pax project in the Mussalo Harbour, Kotka, on August 9th, 2019.

Merituulentie in Mussalo is closed for drive-thorough traffic between August 19th at 7.00 to August 26th at 11.00 due to track repair work at level crossing.

The installation of pipelines for the Nord Stream 2 gas pipe project finished in the economic region of Finland in August in week 34, when the installation work for the second pipeline was brought to a conclusion.

We will be performing maintenance work on the datacommunications network of Port of HaminaKotka Ltd on 27 November 2019 from 14.30 onwards. This will cause disturbance in the issuance of Visy permits, gate functions and the functioning of the weighbridge at Mussalo.

Sea Captain Timo Rosendahl has been appointed Manager, Security and Rescue, of Port of HaminaKotka Ltd from 1 November 2019 following the retirement of Timo Kallio. Timo Rosendahl took on this position from the duties of Deputy Manager, Traffic and Security.

The expansion in the western area of the Mussalo Harbour of the Port of HaminaKotka is part of the Eastern Baltic Hub project.

International cruise ships will again visit the Port of Hamina next summer, continuing the successful cruise business launched in recent years. The vessels expected in Kotka next summer are: 9 July MV Ocean Majesty 25 July MS Serenissima

Sea Captain Suvi-Tuuli Lappalainen started as Deputy Manager, Traffic and Safety at Port of HaminaKotka Ltd on 20 January 2020. She took on this position from the position of the HSSE Manager at Oiltanking Finland Oy.
